Tesla opened two Supercharger sites in the past week that came out of its driver voting program. One sits at the end of the Overseas Highway in Key West, Florida. The other is in Cherokee, North Carolina, at the North Carolina entrance to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Key West site has 12 stalls and is listed as open in the U.S. Department of Energy's station locator. The Cherokee site has 8 stalls, and Tesla's map lists it as open 24/7.

Tesla Charging announced both sites on X with the label "Voting Winner Site." The Key West post, "New Tesla Supercharger: Key West, FL (12 stalls)," went up on Thursday, October 15, Tesla North reported. Tesla's opening announcement for Cherokee followed, and Tesla North covered it on Monday, October 19.

Key West: open at the Winn-Dixie

The Alternative Fuels Data Center lists the station as Winn-Dixie - Tesla Supercharger (station ID 471446) at 2814 N Roosevelt Blvd, Key West, FL 33040. A query of the AFDC station database on October 20 returned status E, meaning open, with an open date of October 16, one day after Tesla's announcement. The listing shows 12 DC fast ports on the Tesla network, the TESLA connector type, and access 24 hours daily. The posted price in that listing was "$0.49 per kWh" on October 20; that is AFDC's figure for that date, not a guaranteed rate.

The project dates back more than two years. In April 2024, Tesla Mag reported that Tesla planned a 12-stall Supercharger at the same Winn-Dixie on N Roosevelt Blvd and that permits had been issued the week before its April 17 story. The store is about 2.5 miles from the Southernmost Point landmark. The October 16 open date in AFDC comes roughly two and a half years after those permits.

Tesla Charging labeled Key West a voting winner without naming the voting round. Elsewhere in the Keys, Key Largo was among Tesla's Q4 2025 voting winners.

Cherokee: a Spring 2023 winner opens

Cherokee sits at the North Carolina entrance to Great Smoky Mountains National Park and at the southern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Tesla's map lists the 8-stall site as open 24/7. Cherokee was one of four U.S. winners in Tesla's Spring 2023 Supercharger vote. The other three were Brick Township, New Jersey, and Bryce Canyon City and Park City, both in Utah. That puts the Cherokee opening about three and a half years after the vote that selected it. An AFDC search of Tesla stations in North Carolina on October 20 returned no Cherokee entry, so its open status comes from Tesla's map and announcement.

How the voting program works

Tesla account holders can vote for up to five proposed locations and suggest new ones, and Tesla has run the vote quarterly since 2022, according to Tesla North. Tesla named 36 winners in a single batch in August 2026, and it applied the same "Voting Winner Site" label to an 8-stall site in Iași, Romania, the Friday before the Key West announcement. In Florida, AFDC listed 261 open, public Tesla DC fast charging stations with 3,060 ports statewide in the October 20 query. AFDC counts stations and ports rather than stalls.

What It Means for Drivers

  • Key West: Drivers coming down the Overseas Highway now have a Supercharger at the Winn-Dixie on N Roosevelt Blvd., about 2.5 miles from the Southernmost Point, with access listed around the clock. AFDC lists the connector type as TESLA, so drivers of vehicles with a different port should check the AFDC entry and the Tesla app for which vehicles can use the site before counting on it.
  • Key West pricing: The AFDC price is a single-day listing. Check the current rate for this site in the Tesla app before charging.
  • Cherokee: Drivers heading into the Smokies from the North Carolina side, or starting or ending a Blue Ridge Parkway trip, now have an 8-stall Tesla site at the park entrance. Route planners and third-party apps that pull station data from AFDC may not show Cherokee until it is added there, so Tesla's map is the place to find it for now.
